Examples

A mildly cursed phrase

The default intensity of 5 gives a solid haunted look that is still readable.

Maximum chaos

Crank the slider to 10 for thick, screen-breaking corruption.

A faint tremor

At intensity 2 the text looks slightly wrong — subtle enough for a bio.

What is Cursed Text?

Cursed text — usually called zalgo text — is ordinary text buried under stacks of combining diacritical marks: accents, tildes and hooks rendered above, through and below each letter, as if the words were rotting through the screen. It comes from the mid-2000s "zalgo" internet meme, where demonic cartoon speech was drawn as corrupted, glitching letters. The effect stuck and became its own genre.

Today cursed text appears in creepypasta stories, horror video titles, spooky Discord and Twitter bios, Halloween posts, glitchcore aesthetics, and anywhere a little digital menace is funny. The generator adds random diacritic stacks after every character, and the intensity slider controls how thick the corruption gets — from a faint tremor at 1 to full unreadable chaos at 10.

Everything runs locally in your browser: the randomness, the stacking, the preview. Nothing is uploaded. One caution — heavy zalgo is hard to read, and some platforms strip or block combining characters, so test before you post and keep the intensity moderate for anything people must actually read.

Frequently asked questions

What is zalgo text?

Zalgo text is regular text with combining diacritical marks — the accent-like symbols Unicode lets you stack onto letters — piled above, through and below each character. It is named after a 2000s internet meme of corrupted, demonic cartoon speech.

What does the intensity slider do?

It sets how many combining characters are stacked on each letter, from 1 (a light touch) to 10 (maximum corruption). The preview regenerates with fresh random marks every time you move the slider or type.

Why does my cursed text break in some apps?

The effect relies on long chains of combining characters. Some platforms strip them, cap how many you can post, or render them as empty boxes — test on the platform before committing to a name or bio.

Is cursed text readable?

At low intensities, mostly. Past about 7 the stacks overwhelm the letters and the text becomes decorative rather than readable — which is sometimes exactly the point.

Does it work with any text?

Any letters you type get cursed, while spaces are left alone so your word boundaries survive. All processing happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
